Iraqis
in the firing line - images from an invasion Whitehall 6-8pm
This
Thursday 3 April up to 100 anti war activists will line Whitehall
from 6-8pm with images of people who have been injured or lost
family members in the US/UK invasion of Iraq. The images are
photos collected by members of the Iraq Peace Team, a group
of peace activists who have been in Iraq since September 2002.
Twelve activists remain in Baghdad.
The
images include a picture of Muhammed Adnan, a 4 year old wounded
by shrapnel on March 23rd at a farm outside Baghdad to which
his family had fled to escape the bombing, a picture of Nada
Adnan, aged 13, a relative of Muhammed, whose cranium was fractured
and face gashed in the same attack. Interviewed in hospital
by April Hurley, a physician with the IPT Nada said, "I
wish that God would take Bush. Why did he do this to us? to
me?". The family was later visited by British human rights
observer Jo Wilding, who was expelled from Iraq earlier this
week after 6 weeks in Baghdad. (To call Jo 07979 211897)
Activists
will also display an image of Razzaq Kazem al-Khafaj, grieving
over the coffins of the six members of his family killed by
a US attack on Hilla this Tuesday April 1st. The images can
be seen at www.voicesuk.org
Gabriel
Carlyle, joint co ordinator of Voices in the Wilderness UK said,
"We want to put faces and names onto the victims to bring
home to the British public the human cost of this illegal, immoral
invasion. In the coming days and weeks, by setting restraints
on the US and British Governments, our protests can quite literally
save the lives of thousands of people in Iraq."
On
Friday Voices will take delivery of 20,000 anti war postcards
bearing the image of Muhammed Adnan for campaigners to send
to Geoff Hoon, Britain's Minister for War.
This
Sunday Voices will join other activists at Britain's military
HQ at Northwood ,
northwest London for a day of action against the war, part of
the reclaim the bases
weekend, www.reclaimthebases.org.uk .
