7 NOVEMBER: DEMO, WITH SPONANEOUS CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, IN WHITEHALL

PRESS RELEASE

ANTI-WAR PROCESSION LAYS FLOWERS AT CENOTAPH
Sunday 7th November, 4pm, Cenotaph

Anti-war protesters have laid white flowers at the Cenotaph as part of an emergency demonstration against the imminent US assault on Fallujah.

Two hundred protesters assembled in Parliament Square on Sunday afternoon to demonstrate against the attacks.

Displaying images from previous US attacks on cities in Iraq, they heard personal testimony from a former Fallujah resident about the US assault on the city in April 2004.

Many protesters brought white flowers to mark the tens of thousands of Iraqis – and scores of British soldiers – who have died in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion.

They took part in a funeral procession along Whitehall to the Cenotaph, where the flowers were laid, as well as a coffin and a wreath.

A small group of protesters subsequently staged a sit-down protest in Whitehall, blocking traffic for fifteen minutes.

Jonathan Stevenson, 23, a supporter of Stop the Attacks from London, said: “Our thoughts are with the thousands of non-combatants in Fallujah who have been declared legitimate targets by US forces. This misguided offensive will turn more ordinary Iraqis against the continuing occupation.”

3 NOVEMBER: HANDS OFF FALLUJAH!

On 3 November activists got inside RAF Welford in Berkshire, one of the largest bomb-stores in Europe, hanging banners saying "No War" and "Stop Bombing Kids" and chalking the words "Hands off Fallujah on the munitions."

3 NOVEMBER: MORE DIRECT ACTION AT DOWNING STREET

On 3 November a lone anti-war demonstrator staged a dramatic visual protest against the imminent attacks on Fallujah, climbing onto the side of the Foreign Office building next to the gates of Downing Street, spashing it with fake blood and stencilling it with the words “Don’t Attack Fallujah, Black Watch Out” and "No More War."

Pinched!

The protestor - who's handiwork appeared on yesterday's Channel 4 News - has been charged with criminal damage and bailed to appear at Bow Street Magistrates Court on Wednesday 10th November at 10am. Support welcome!

Prio to his arrest the protestor told the photographer that “Today is a day of fear for the people of Fallujah. They need our active solidarity.”

31 OCTOBER: DIRECT ACTION IN LONDON

On 31 October a group of five enterprising anti-war activists took to the streets to protest against the looming assault on Fallujah. They started by blocking the traffic at Oxford Circus, drawing crowds of 400+ and receiving lots of support from interested people who were keen to know what was going on - some of whom even joined them in blocking the road!

Blocking traffic at Oxford Circus. Note the large crowd of onlookers!

They then went to Downing Street where one of them managed to scale the gates and stood, perched above the gates for about 45mins attracting the attention of passers by. According to one of the demonstrators all the police they encountered at D. Street were against the war and the new attacks! The intrepid climber was arrested and released the following day.

Outside Downing Street later that day.
